How to clean and maintain the sintered minicap electrodes

Cleaning and maintenance of sintered Ag/AgCl neurofeedback electrodes

After completing the daily recordings.

  • Wash the electrodes in warm water with a light solution of liquid disinfectant detergent (could be for hand washing or Ivory);

  • Clean any residual layer of gel or paste on each electrode exclusively with a cotton stick sodden in the distilled water;

  • Rinse and dry the electrodes with the cotton or paper towel and leave to the next day.

  • In case of oxide or extremely dark layer on the electrode, clean it with the a cotton stick soaked in NUPREP gel.

If the electrodes will not be used for a few days or longer, they must be cleaned and dried before they are stored.
  • Put them in the resealable plastic bag, so that the moisture from the environment cannot act on the electrode;

  • Do not expose electrodes to daylight, because the electrodes are photosensitive and become darken on the daylight exposure.

  • Pay attention to the residual layer of gel or paste, which could dry out in the electrodes. This creates high resistance layer that prevents the recording.

  • For electrodes cleaning is not allowed to use abrasive or sharp objects because this may result in permanent destruction of the electrodes!
